Severn Trent awarding waste contracts of up to £480m over a potential eight years

20th November 2020

Severn Trent has today announced it will be awarding waste contracts in two lots to Customer Solutions Plus, a joint venture between Network Plus and Sapphire Utility Solutions, and IWJS.

The company’s new operating model is designed to improve performance for its customers in the Midlands and mid-Wales, as well as customer experience, especially where there is a risk of sewer flooding.
The contract has been split into two lots for an initial four years, with the potential to be extended for another four years:

  • Lot 1: Customer reactive work, worth up to £410m over the full eight years, and covering reactive works, such as cleansing, repairing, renewing and reinstating sewer pipes, remedial works, such as inspections and network mapping, and some proactive works to improve performance; and
  • Lot 2: The remaining proactive works, worth up to £70m over the full eight years, covering the proactive work not undertaken as part of Lot one.

Lot 1 will be awarded to the Customer Solutions Plus joint venture, and Lot 2 will be awarded to IWJS. The initial contracts will run for four years from 1 April 2021, with the option of an extension for a further four years, and both cover Severn Trent Water in England and Hafren Dyfrdwy in mid-Wales.

Helen Miles, Capital and Commercial Services Director at Severn Trent, said: “Our new operating model is designed to improve the way we work and ensure our service for our customers is the best it can be. It means we can be more proactive in preventing issues before they happen whilst also responding as quickly as we can on those occasions when our customers have problems.
“We’re looking forward to working with Network Plus, Sapphire Utility Solutions and IWJS going forward, and we’re sure our customers will be the real beneficiaries of our new partnership.”
There will now be a transition period until April, when Customers Solutions Plus and IWJS will take over from Amey.
